The art program is one of the most popular programs; wait lists for participation have grown, creating the need to increase the number of classes offered. Art Coordinator, Nancy Espensen is a truly passionate and gifted teacher who inspires participants through mixed media, hands-on engagement, and other artistic techniques. From sculpting to line art, participants are taught about the masters of art, current and past artistic styles, and how to develop art using their knowledge, imaginations, and a variety of creative materials.
A representation of completed projects for with various media each class are featured in community art showings at the local mall. Through this program, participants gain an appreciation for a variety of art forms and hands on experience–and for some, it will be the beginning of a lifelong hobby or career.

The dance program offers classes at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels, and includes all forms of modern dance. One of the most popular classes is the Hip Hop class, which fills up quickly and generally has a wait list, so early signups are encouraged. The goal of these programs is to learn various dances, develop physical strength, endurance, and graceful movements; foster appreciation of a variety of dance styles; encourage personal expression through dance movements; and promote dance as an art form.

Currently, the center offers beginning guitar classes which include basic musicianship, including reading music and chord charts, tuning the instrument, as well as hand positioning for chords, and playing simple songs. Students receive class instruction and are divided into skills levels for additional small group work and more individualized instruction. Students for this class must be at least 8 years old. Like all of the center’s programs, these classes are offered free-of-charge.

The tutoring program can be a game-changer for those struggling with school work. My City
Youth has a team of dedicated, experienced and encouraging tutors who work one-on-one with
students to help them achieve success with math, reading, spelling… Whatever the need, these tutors would love to help. Students of all ages are welcome to get free educational tutoring.
Currently offered in the summer session, the Computer Programing course offers instruction in
basic to intermediate computer programming, including a technical understanding of hardware
and software, and hands-on trouble-shooting of various issues. This program is designed with
older youth in mind, and with a goal of providing a foundation for any interested in pursuing a
technical career or further studies in computer science.

Box Park is an on-site skate park that provides a supervised, safe environment for skate-boarders and scooter riders. Small ramps and other obstacles challenge riders to improve their skills. My City Youth Center hosts All Skate Days, in which skating contests are held and prizes donated by local skate shops are awarded. Helmets are required and will be provided for use by anyone using Box Park, are made available for use while at Box Park for any rider who arrives without one. Box Park is open for youth aged 8 year old through high school on Mondays, and on Fridays for Middle and High School students.

This program offers instruction in basic gymnastic and tumbling skills, with a goal of overall fitness, flexibility and physical coordination. Early sign up for classes is encouraged as they are quickly filled.

Life can be hard! It’s easy to feel alone and stuck. In KickStart Jr participants discover they are not alone. Together they actively explore life lessons contained in Bible stories. God knows right where we are and is ready to help. The goal is to promote understanding of personal value, self-worth, and positive life experiences. Youth of any faith or beliefs are welcome.
